Secretary Elaine Chao was the very first Asian-American woman in U.S. history to be appointed to the President’s Cabinet. Born in Asia, growing up in New York (Queens and Long Island), working on the West Coast and now a resident of Kentucky, Chao discusses the challenges that she has faced in her storied career and in her dedication to serving others, including during her tenure as Director of the Peace Corps, President of the United Way of America, U. S. Secretary of Labor and U. S. Secretary of Transportation. A consequential leader, trailblazer and lifelong advocate of greater opportunities for everyone, she is committed to helping and mentoring others to build better lives for themselves and their families.
